World Cup 2026: Muñoz settles it as Colombia edge DR Congo 1-0
Muñoz pinches it in Guadalajara
Colombia beat DR Congo 1-0 at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, a tight World Cup 2026 Group K affair settled by a single moment of quality. The decisive goal arrived on 76 minutes, when Daniel Muñoz finished off a Juan Quintero assist. One chance taken, one game won.
It was not a thrashing, but Colombia did not need one. The result confirmed top spot in Group K with seven points from three matches, a goal difference of plus three and four goals scored. DR Congo, despite the defeat, finish third on four points — and, as things stand, the best of the third-placed teams across the twelve groups. Both sides advance to the Round of 32.

Quintero's pass, Muñoz's finish, 76'
DR Congo signalled their intent early in the second half, sending on Ndombe Sadiki at the break for N. Mukau. The first booking came on 56 minutes for Jhon Lucumí, after which both managers reached for the bench. DR Congo introduced Simon Banza, while Colombia brought on Luis Suárez and James Rodríguez, the latter replacing Juan Quintero — though not before Quintero had a final say.
Christian Pickel and Arthur Masuaku arrived for DR Congo on 72 minutes as the contest tilted, and four minutes later it broke open. Muñoz arrived to convert Quintero's pass on 76 minutes, the only goal of the night. Colombia immediately freshened things up, sending on Richard Ríos, and saw out the closing stages comfortably. Late yellow cards for Pickel and Jefferson Lerma in stoppage time were the last notes of a controlled finish.

The crowd backed Colombia, just not the scoreline
The futbol.so community leaned firmly towards Colombia here, and the result vindicated them — though not quite to the letter. The consensus pick was a 2-1 Colombia win, a goal busier than what actually unfolded. Fans from Argentina and Spain favoured a 2-0 Colombia margin, closer in spirit to the clean sheet but still a stride ahead of the final tally.
So the broad call was right; the precise numbers were not. Colombia won, as predicted, but did so with a single goal rather than the comfortable plurals the community imagined. The official forecast had it as Colombia 1-0 — which, on this occasion, was the one that landed.
- Colombia
- Argentina
- Spain
Official forecast: 1-0
