Larin's late nod, and Canada's first ever point

The World Cup 2026 finally delivered Canada something to keep. In front of a partly cloudy Toronto afternoon at BMO Field, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina shared a 1-1 draw, and the co-hosts walked away with their first point in tournament history.

Canada dominated the ball without quite dominating the scoreboard. They held 61% possession to Bosnia's 39%, launched 143 attacks to 83, and edged the expected goals (xG = expected goals) count 1.23 to 0.96. The chances were there — two big chances created apiece, twelve key passes for Canada against five for Bosnia — but for an hour the finishing was not. Substitute Cyle Larin changed that, heading home Patrick David's cross with twelve minutes left.

It was, on the balance of play, a fair reflection. Bosnia struck first and defended deep, clearing the ball 70 times to Canada's 21 and winning a remarkable 43 of their aerial duels. Canada simply had more of everything except the early goal. A point each, and both teams keep moving.

From Lukic's header to Larin's reply

The mood was settled early and then unsettled twice. Alistair Johnston picked up a booking inside the opening quarter-hour, and on twenty-one minutes Bosnia made the better start count: Jovo Lukic met Sead Kolasinac's delivery to head Bosnia in front. Toronto went quiet.

The first half closed with a flurry of Bosnia cautions, Ermedin Demirovic and Lukic both booked around the interval, and Luc De Fougerolles followed for Canada early in the second period. By the hour mark Canada were chasing it hard, and the bench got busy — a triple change just past the hour, with Jonathan David, Jacob Shaffelburg and Ali Ahmed all introduced.

The decisive move came from another substitution. Cyle Larin had been on for two minutes when, on seventy-eight, he finished Patrick David's assist to level the match and send the home crowd into the celebration the highlights would later call an eruption. Bosnia pushed personnel forward late, Kolasinac among them, but the closing minutes brought only a Nikola Katic yellow in stoppage time. It finished honours even.

The forecast favoured Canada; the draw split it

The futbol.so community didn't lean hard either way on this one. The official forecast had Canada as the most likely winners, with the draw a clear second and a Bosnia win the outsider of the three outcomes.

Reality landed in the middle. Canada didn't win, but they were the better side for most of the afternoon and got their reward late, which is roughly the story the numbers told all along. The model nailed the scoreline exactly — a 1-1 draw — even if it tipped the result towards the wrong colour.

A point apiece keeps both sides alive and well. After three matches, Canada sit second in Group B on four points with a healthy goal difference, and have reached the Round of 32. Bosnia and Herzegovina, also on four points, are third — but currently inside the eight best third-placed teams, which is provisionally enough to advance too.

Two teams, one point each, both still standing. Not a bad afternoon's work for either.
