World Cup 2026: Germany Hammer Curaçao 7-1 in Houston
Seven from Germany, one for history's sake
In their World Cup 2026 Group E meeting at NRG Stadium in Houston, Germany dismantled tournament debutants Curaçao 7-1. The scoreline tells most of the story, but the underlying numbers back it up just as emphatically: Germany generated 4.22 expected goals (xG, the quality-of-chances metric) against just 0.41 for Curaçao, and held 65% of possession to Curaçao's 35%.
Germany piled up 21 shots inside the penalty area and 12 on target, while Curaçao managed only 2 efforts on target all afternoon. The Germans also created six big chances to Curaçao's none. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring early, Kai Havertz finished with a brace, and Deniz Undav had a hand in three goals down the stretch. Curaçao's lone bright spot — and it's a real one — was Livano Comenencia's strike, the nation's first-ever World Cup goal.

From a 6th-minute opener to Comenencia's equaliser
Germany struck inside six minutes, Nmecha turning in a Florian Wirtz assist to settle any early nerves. Then came the moment Curaçao will remember forever: in the 21st minute, Livano Comenencia leveled the match, writing his name into the history books as the scorer of the country's first goal at a World Cup. For a brief window it was 1-1.
That parity didn't last. Nico Schlotterbeck restored the lead before half-time, set up by Nathaniel Brown, and Havertz converted a penalty deep in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1 at the break. Jamal Musiala struck almost immediately after the restart, finishing a Joshua Kimmich pass in the 47th minute.
From there Germany rotated and kept scoring. Brown got on the scoresheet himself in the 68th minute, assisted by Undav, who had come on for Musiala. Undav then turned scorer in the 78th from another Kimmich assist, and Havertz capped his brace in the 88th, set up by Undav. Notably, the referee's notebook stayed clean — no cards were shown to either side all match.

The model said Germany — and Germany delivered
There's no futbol.so community lean on record for this one, so the cleanest reference point is the official forecast, which made Germany comfortably the most likely winner against Curaçao. The result didn't just match that read — it blew past it. A four-time World Cup winner against a tournament debutant carried clear expectations, and Germany met them with seven goals.
If there's a caveat worth flagging, it's the one the post-match coverage picked up on: conceding to a debutant — even briefly going level at 1-1 — hints at familiar defensive lapses behind the firepower. The 7-1 was dominant, but Germany weren't flawless.

World Cup: Germany vs Curaçao
No geo restrictionThe table reflects the gulf: Germany sit top of Group E on six points and have already booked their place in the Round of 32. Curaçao, on a single point, are out of the group stage — but they leave with a piece of history in Comenencia's goal that no result can erase. For Germany, attention now turns to whether that attacking output can be paired with a tighter back line as the knockout rounds approach.
