In one of the more lopsided stalemates of the World Cup 2026 group stage, England and Ghana played out a 0-0 draw at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The rain fell, the temperature sat around 21°C, and England controlled the night without ever finding the finish to match it.

The first real flashpoint came in the 41st minute, when Declan Rice was booked for England. Ghana's Iñaki Williams joined him in the referee's book just before the hour, picking up a yellow card in the 60th minute.

From there the game turned into a substitution carousel. Just after the hour mark England refreshed their attack and defence — Bukayo Saka came on for Anthony Gordon in the 65th, and Nico O'Reilly replaced Djed Spence a minute later. Ghana responded in kind, with Abdul Fatawu Issahaku coming on for the booked Iñaki Williams and Prince Kwabena Adu replacing Jordan Ayew.

England kept rolling the dice as they chased a winner. Morgan Rogers came on for Jude Bellingham in the 73rd, Eberechi Eze replaced Elliot Anderson in the 74th, and Marcus Rashford entered for Noni Madueke in the 83rd. Ghana made late changes of their own, with Kojo Peprah Oppong on for Marvin Senaya in the 87th and a switch involving Abdul Rahman Baba deep into stoppage time. Despite all the fresh legs, neither side found the net, and the whistle confirmed 0-0.

The room called an England win — Ghana said no

Coming in, the lean was clear. The futbol.so community backed England, with the most-popular scoreline landing on a 2-0 win for the Three Lions. That consensus held across the board: fans in Colombia, Argentina and Spain all tilted the same way, toward an England victory by the same 2-0 margin.

The official model agreed with the direction of travel, rating England as comfortably the most likely winners. Reality, though, split the difference on the scoreline and ignored the favourites entirely — Ghana's low block turned a projected England win into a goalless draw. It's a useful reminder that probability isn't a promise: the side everyone expected to win did dominate the ball and the chances, but the scoreboard stayed stubbornly blank.

The draw doesn't dent either side's standing. England top Group L on seven points with a plus-four goal difference and have already booked their place in the Round of 32.
