Scotland 0-1 Morocco: Saibari's early strike settles World Cup 2026 Group C tie
Two minutes was all it took at Gillette Stadium
A single goal decided this World Cup 2026 Group C meeting in Foxborough, and it arrived almost before anyone had settled. Ismael Saibari struck in the second minute, set up by Brahim Diaz, and Morocco never relinquished the lead. Scotland chased the game for the remaining 88 minutes and could not find a way back.
The numbers tell the story of a contest Morocco controlled without ever pulling clear. Morocco held 59% of possession to Scotland's 41%, registered 0.99 expected goals (xG = the quality of chances created) against Scotland's 0.51, and fashioned three big chances to Scotland's one. Scotland, for all their effort, managed not a single shot on target across the 90 minutes; Morocco had two. On a clear, warm day at Gillette Stadium, under the eye of Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev, the early goal proved enough.

From a 2nd-minute jolt to a long, fruitless chase
The game was barely underway when it tilted. Saibari finished off a Brahim Diaz pass in the second minute, and Scotland spent the rest of the evening trying to undo the damage. Ilias Diop went into the book on 23 minutes as Morocco settled into their rhythm.
Steve Clarke shuffled his pack after the hour, sending on Ben Gannon-Doak for Kieran Tierney just before Andrew Robertson was cautioned. A double change on 71 minutes brought Lyndon Dykes and Kenny McLean on for Che Adams and Ryan Christie as Scotland threw bodies forward. Morocco countered with their own triple substitution on 84 minutes, freshening the legs of Saibari, Bilal El Khannouss and the involvement around Brahim Diaz. Late changes from both sides followed, but the scoreboard stayed put. Notably, Scotland never troubled the Morocco goalkeeper enough to force a save — the one recorded save of the match belonged to Scotland.

The community read Morocco right, just not the margin
The futbol.so community leaned towards Morocco here, and so did fans in Argentina and Colombia. The most-chosen scoreline was a 2-0 Morocco win — the right winner, if a goal too generous. The official forecast also favoured Morocco, with a Scotland victory rated the least likely of the three outcomes and a draw the middle ground.
In the end Morocco took the points but only by the single Saibari goal, a tighter result than the popular call anticipated. The lean was correct; the precise margin simply landed on the cautious side of reality.

World Cup: Scotland vs Morocco
No geo restrictionMorocco move on with seven points, sitting second in Group C and through to the Round of 32. Scotland finish their three games on three points and in third place; as things stand their third-placed ranking does not put them among the eight best thirds, so their fate rests on results elsewhere. There was frustration in the Scotland camp over a penalty that was not given, a theme that ran through the post-match talk. For now, Morocco look ahead with momentum, and Scotland wait on others.
